HarperImpulse is an imprint of HarperCollins that focuses on publishing new romance fiction on a digital platform. They have a very open submission policy and welcome fresh ideas from aspiring romance writers. They have just announced their Winter Wonderland competition, which asks entrants to submit a Christmas, Hanukkah or New Year themed romance book of any length. The prize is a three-book deal with HarperImpulse and afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason in London. And if you cannot make it to London, they will send you a Fortnum and Mason hamper through the post. A pretty excellent proposition really!
To give you a little bit of inspiration, check out some of the previous books that HarperImpulse have released, as well as some of their future titles they have in the pipeline. Something that might get you in the seasonal spirit is Lorraine Wilson’s Confessions of a Chalet Girl, a novella that documents the romantic experiences of new chalet girl Holly during a season on the slopes in the glamorous Swiss Alps. Less seasonal, but just as titillating, is Charlotte Phillips’ sassy contemporary work Your Room or Mine, in which Izzy Shaw acts as your guide to getting over that troublesome cheating ex, one spa weekend at a time.
The closing date for entries is midnight GMT 16th October 2013. All entries should be sent to email@example.com with ‘Winter Wonderland submission’ as the e-mail subject header. Please also include a brief covering note about yourself and the submission. Submission guidelines and answers to any other queries you may have, including information about royalties and formats can be found on the HarperImpulse website.
So even though it’s August, I encourage you all to get the fire going, make yourself a batch of mulled wine, whack It’s A Wonderful Life on and get scribbling!
