The 30-Hour Novel Competition: An Update

When we agreed to support the NaNoWriWee project it was because we thought it was a great idea and could be lots of fun and, even though The Kernel has just announced its closure, authonomy and HarperCollins remain committed to supporting the 30-Hour Novel competition. My team at authonomy will read through all the entries and select an overall winner as originally planned.

Some practical stuff:

  • I believe the intention was for The Kernel to host a public vote on the entries, with the overall winner being selected by me. With its closure, The Kernel will no longer host a vote.
  • Instead, the authonomy team are going through all the entries as I write. We will have a shortlist ready by Thursday 21st of March.
  • We shall then select a winner which will be announced on Thursday 4th April.
  • The winning entry will be published as an ebook by HarperCollins on the authonomy imprint. Assuming the winner wants to be, of course!
  • All future communication will take place at our authonomy blog.

All the entries are available to view here

Very best of luck to all the entrants. We are enjoying reading through your work so far!

hi scott, as I told the kernel there are two entries under my name, one is 'The Care Home' and the other is the Care Home (finished)' The Care home finished is my entry, the 'Care Home' was just my work for the first day at the kernel offices.

Hope that helps and you don't have people reading the same entry twice

Some fantastic work was written over the course of that weekend. I've read most of the stories.

Re-reading mine, I think I may have made a mistake by writing outside my usual genre but it was fun nevertheless.

I wish everyone the best of luck :)

I am so excited about this. I feel like we've all bonded overseas in our plight! Best of luck to everyone and to The Harper Collins team. I can't believe what a wonderful opportunity arose for us all and everyone deserves a pat on the back for working so hard!
